Gossip

My friends and I always seem to talk about other people and we usually insult them. I know that’s gossip—how can I stop it?

God’s Response

A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends. Proverbs 16:28

Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart. Proverbs 18:8

A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers. Proverbs 20:19

Fire goes out without wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops. Proverbs 26:20

It’s fun to gossip, isn’t it? The Bible compares rumors to “dainty morsels.” Everyone loves to be in on the latest news, but the very people with whom you gossip are probably also gossiping about you. Gossip separates friends, reveals people’s secrets, and causes much hurt. You can make it stop by changing the subject or by saying something kind about the person others are gossiping about. When you don’t add fuel, the fire will go out.
