Good Habits

Good Habits

Can God help me get rid of bad habits and develop good habits?

God’s Response

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Romans 6:16

Train yourself to be godly. Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8

Just as it takes time to kick a bad habit, so it takes time to develop a good habit. God will help you do both, but be patient. You get rid of bad habits by asking for God’s help, and you’re also going to need some good old-fashioned discipline and self-control. Good habits—such as reading God’s Word, praying, and giving your time and money in service—will be developed as you do them. The more you do them, the more natural they will become.

This Is Promising

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 1 Corinthians 9:25
