Flattery

Flattery

Why should I avoid flattery?

God’s Response

To flatter friends is to lay a trap for their feet. Proverbs 29:5

She seduced him with her pretty speech and enticed him with her flattery. He followed her at once. . . . He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life. Proverbs 7:21-23

Flattery is lying—saying a lot of sweet stuff to get another person in the mood to give you what you want. Because it is manipulative, flattery is a dangerous trap. When people discover that you have set them up, they may become angry with you. Getting what you want through dishonest means will eventually leave you disillusioned, unfulfilled, and lonely.

This Is Promising

In the end, people appreciate honest criticism far more than flattery. Proverbs 28:23
