Divorce

My friend’s parents are getting a divorce. It seems like everyone gets divorced. Should I just expect that for myself?

God’s Response

You cry out, “Why doesn’t the LORD accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the LORD witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. . . . “For I hate divorce!” says the LORD, the God of Israel. . . . “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.” Malachi 2:14-16

Many things that are common in our society are contrary to God’s design and desire for us. As a Christian, you should not regard divorce as an option. If you go into marriage committed to finding a way through your problems rather than a way out, your chances of divorce will be less. Then, when the first major conflict arises, your first instinct will be to resolve the conflict, not dissolve the marriage. Work through every difficulty with God’s help, which may include the help of a godly Christian counselor. You don’t need to be a statistic. The vows you say on your wedding day are symbolic of the vows of commitment you have made to honor God for your whole life.
