Courting Disaster

My friends are getting into some dangerous stuff and they want me to join them. How can I tell them no and still remain friends?

God’s Response

[Ahab] turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, “Will you join me in battle to recover Ramoth-gilead?”Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Why, of course! You and I are as one. My troops are your troops, and my horses are your horses. . . . But first let’s find out what the LORD says.” . . .The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat, “There is one more man who could consult the LORD for us, but I hate him.” 1 Kings 22:4-5, 8

Ahab was a king of the north who wanted nothing to do with God. Jehoshaphat, the king of the south, was sincerely trying to follow God. Jehoshaphat made a huge mistake when he called the evil King Ahab his brother and joined him in war against the advice of God’s prophet. The battle was a disaster. If your friends are pressuring you to do anything that you know would displease God, your best course of action may be to leave. Sometimes you must do more than say no; you must walk away. Otherwise, you, too, may be headed for trouble.
