Celebrate!
Celebrate!
Is it okay to celebrate the Christian life? Is God okay with celebration?
God’s Response
Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth! Burst into song, O mountains! Isaiah 49:13
This day in early spring, in the month of Abib, you have been set free. You must celebrate this event. . . . You must explain to your children, “I am celebrating what the LORD did for me when I left Egypt.” Exodus 13:4-5, 8
David danced before the LORD with all his might. 2 Samuel 6:14
When we celebrate, we take time out from the ordinary to honor and to observe something that is notable, special, or important to us. Whether we are leaping in joy before the Lord, as King David did, or solemnly listening to God’s Word at the Lord’s Supper (read Luke 22:17-19), we pause to remember, honor, worship, and praise. The result of all celebration should be joy that comes from a full and grateful heart. God gives us the ultimate reason to celebrate because he has rescued us from the consequences of sin and promises us the wonders of eternity.
This Is Promising
This festival will be a happy time of celebrating with your sons and daughters . . . to honor the LORD. . . for it is he who blesses you with bountiful harvests and gives you success in all your work. Deuteronomy 16:14-15
