How do I belong to God and still live in this world?

God’s Response

The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. . . . They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the One who sent me. John 15:19-21

God could have chosen to take Christians to heaven immediately when they believe in Jesus. However, because he leaves us here, he obviously expects those who belong to him to live in and influence the world. Many who don’t believe in God simply can’t understand why you believe what you do and will think you are a flake. Others who are opposed to God will actively oppose you. When you realize that Jesus predicted these attitudes, you will be more patient as you try to live among godless people. Choose to be “salt”—a positive witness for God.

This Is Promising

They were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:16
