God’s Response

Balak, the Moabite king, had a problem too big for him to solve. A mighty army was camping in his land. His only hope, he believed, was to invoke a curse on the Israelites. Because he didn’t know God, magic was his only higher power. So he called for Balaam, a man with an international reputation for sorcery. When we need help, too often we look first for some magical solution. “Good luck,” our friends tell us. “I hope things work out,” they say, as if our lives are left to chance. Sometimes we even repeat superstitious acts that seemed to work the last time we needed help. But what about prayer? Shouldn’t we go straight to God, who tells us that he will not ignore those who cry to him for help? Don’t follow Balak’s example; he tapped into the wrong power source.

God’s Promise

The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him sincerely. Psalm 145:18
