Why did Jesus die on the cross?

God’s Response

No one can take my life from me. I lay down my life voluntarily. For I have the right to lay it down when I want to and also the power to take it again. For my Father has given me this command. John 10:18

You know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. . . . He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 1 Peter 1:18-19

If the president of the United States offered to be executed in the place of a convicted criminal, we would be amazed. How much more should we be amazed that the God of the universe took our place, accepting the punishment we deserved for our sin. His willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for you demonstrates his great love for you.

God’s Promise

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3
