Service
Service
How can I become more Christlike in the way I serve others?
God’s Response
Even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28
Jesus stopped in the road and called, “What do you want me to do for you?” Matthew 20:32
Since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. John 13:14-15
A popular notion of success is being able to afford the luxury of hiring others to keep your lawn, wash your car, or clean your house—in other words, to be served. Jesus turns this thinking on its head by teaching that the highest goal in life is not being served but being a servant. The reason he places such a high value on serving is that it is others-centered rather than self-centered. Service is the essence of a life modeled after Christ.
God’s Challenge
You have been called to live in freedom—not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13
