Compassion
Compassion
How can I be more Christlike in compassion for others?
God’s Response
They left by boat for a quieter spot. But many people saw them leaving, and people from many towns ran ahead along the shore and met them as they landed. A vast crowd was there as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Mark 6:32-34
When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Luke 7:13
Compassion is both an emotion (we are moved with pity for someone) and an action (acting kindly to those in need). In many ways, compassion is a litmus test of our commitment and desire to love others as Christ loves us. If we are not moved by the incredible needs and hurts around us, we are developing hearts of stone, which will soon become too hard to respond to others. To be Christlike is also to share in his compassionate feelings and his response toward the needy, particularly those who cannot help themselves.
God’s Promise
The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. Psalm 145:9
