What should I do when I encounter opposition because I follow God?

God’s Response

All the kings west of the Jordan heard about what had happened. . . . These kings quickly combined their armies to fight against Joshua and the Israelites. Joshua 9:1-2

As long as the king sought the LORD, God gave him success. 2 Chronicles 26:5

When the kings of southern Canaan formed an alliance against the Israelites, Joshua did not let them intimidate him. He knew that doing what is right and following God brings victory in our lives and also stirs greater opposition. Expect this opposition and resolve to follow God with even greater commitment after a victory. Joshua and his leaders let their guard down after victory and were deceived by the enemy. We are most vulnerable in the afterglow of success, the most invincible when utterly dependent on God for future victory.

God’s Promise

God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when you are mocked and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. Matthew 5:10-12
