Expectations

Expectations

What should I expect out of life?

God’s Response

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory when the Holy Spirit is giving life? . . . Since this new covenant gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. 2 Corinthians 3:8, 12

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure. Romans 5:3

Sometimes, Jesus does not match our expectations—he talks about servanthood instead of getting ahead, of giving rather than getting, of sacrifice instead of luxury, of storing up treasure in heaven instead of on earth. When we stop expecting God to be what we want and start thinking of what God wants us to be, our expectations will grow to match his. Only then can we expect a truly fulfilling life. How do we know what God expects? It’s all in the Bible. Read it and raise your expectations.

God’s Promise

We live with a wonderful expectation because Jesus Christ rose again from the dead. For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 1 Peter 1:3-4
