Desires

Desires

How can I know if my desires match God’s desires for me?

God’s Response

[David] sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” Then David sent for her. 2 Samuel 11:3-4

Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Philippians 4:8

David’s selfish desires overpowered his reason. His desire for Bathsheba caused him to commit adultery and to have her husband murdered, which resulted in much grief for his family. When wondering if what you desire is right or wrong, consider the long-term consequences. Is the object of your desire good, consistent with God’s Word, and harmless to others? Answer that question, and you’ll know which choice to make.

God’s Challenge

Live a life of steady goodness so that only good deeds will pour forth. James 3:13
