Throw Out Your Net

Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. John 21:6

What could the son of a carpenter know about fishing that a boat full of seasoned fishermen did not?

There are two lessons here: First, Jesus is God, and he knew where the fish were. Second, the observations of those who are not in the thick of your situation are very valuable.

We aren’t divine, so the practical lesson Jesus leaves us is the power of different perspectives.

These guys were drenched, exhausted, and discouraged. They had been doing what they thought was the right thing all night and had nothing to show for it. Jesus made a suggestion based on his view from the shore and, well, you know what happened.

How long has it been since you brought in someone with a unique perspective?
