Stick To The Truth

Stick to the Truth

These people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the Lord’s instructions. . . . They tell the prophets, “Don’t tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies. Forget all this gloom.” Isaiah 30:9-11

A well-established company was losing its market share in some key categories. My assignment was to measure customer satisfaction.

My research pointed to problems requiring immediate action. I also found some highlights on which to build a revival. The news wasn’t good, but it was truthful.

At my formal presentation, a senior executive stood up, shouted a mild expletive, and accused me of manufacturing the results to ensure a continuing assignment. I hadn’t done this.

Although I am rarely cursed, his reaction was common. Those who significantly invest in the status quo often malign the messengers of truth. I showed him the facts, but he refused to accept the reality that his company needed to change. Six months later he resigned.

Isaiah faced a similar reaction when he spoke the truth to the Israelites.

How do you respond when the truth hurts?
