Replace Personnel Thoughtfully
Replace Personnel Thoughtfully
In those days a man will say to his brother, “Since you have a coat, you be our leader! Take charge of this heap of ruins!” Isaiah 3:6
Now there’s an interesting job qualification! Things were so bad that people were willing to pick someone to lead on the basis of his wardrobe.
The selection of new leadership is the task most critical to the future of your organization.
Whether the vacancy develops because a good leader moves on or a poor leader is replaced, the opening represents an important milestone.
If you’ve been blessed with a leadership transition,
- don’t look for someone to fill the shoes of the person who just left. Let the new leader wear his or her own shoes.
- remember that God created the opening for a reason. Perhaps it will usher in a new style of leadership.
- be aware that promotion from the inside can often lead to “more of the same.”
This is an opportunity for you to rewrite the future, set a new course, and revitalize the mission. Don’t squander it.
