Question Conventional Wisdom

The entire city turned out to hear them preach the word of the Lord. But when some of the Jews saw the crowds, they were jealous; so they slandered Paul and argued against whatever he said. Acts 13:44-45

Here’s some encouragement: If the establishment in your industry or circle of influence is criticizing your success, you are probably doing something right—so slap on a smile and keep it up.

You’re in good company if conventional wisdom finds your ideas foolish.

• Christopher Columbus: “The world isn’t flat.”
• Martin Luther King Jr.: “I have a dream.”
• Ronald Reagan: “Tear down this wall.”
• Jesus the Nazarene: “Lose your life to gain it.”

With only a slight bit of sarcasm, I suggest that you should be the most concerned when everyone agrees with you. If that’s the case, you’re probably not being very effective.

Paul never ran from criticism, although his friends often begged him to avoid it. Thankfully, he didn’t listen to them.

New ideas are uncomfortable. Success breeds jealousy.
