Motivate Change

Motivate Change

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit?” Genesis 3:1

Contrary to your calling as a leader, most people are comfortable with leaving things just the way they are. I call it “organizational inertia.”

Leadership involves change—and change is something that many people in your organization would like to avoid.

There are two ways to bring about change. You can force people to do something different (this is actually pushing, not leading), or you can create a desire in them for change.

Though his intentions were evil, the shrewd serpent exercised excellent leadership skills by getting Eve to question the status quo. He got her to imagine something better than she already had. He led her to her own conclusion and watched as she initiated the change he had in mind. No one forced Eve to eat the fruit.

If you see a need for change in your organization, find ways to challenge the status quo and give people a desire for something outside their comfort zones.
