Learn Humility
Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Isaiah 2:11
There’s an old country-and-western song that goes, “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect in every way . . .”
Here’s a fact: The song is absolutely correct. Handling the fame that comes with a leadership role is one of the hardest lessons to learn.
By definition, leadership requires you to have a certain level of celebrity within your sphere of influence, whether it’s large or small.
Your position will attract people for many reasons. Some will genuinely seek your leadership. Others will want to be near you because of what you can do for them.
God warned the Israelites that pride had turned them away from their mission, which was to obey him. Their leaders had strayed, and God was using Isaiah to help them understand the mess they had gotten into.
It is not difficult to develop an arrogant or prideful attitude. It’s so easy that you often don’t realize it until it’s too late. How are you handling the leadership spotlight?
