Make Promotions Special

This is the ceremony you must follow when you consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. Exodus 29:1

Think about the first time you were promoted to a position that really meant something. It wasn’t a popularity contest; it meant that you had certain abilities and were valued by the organization.

Such events are special milestones in a person’s life. The next time you are able to offer someone a significant promotion, pay careful attention to how you tell him or her about your decision.

Think about taking this person to lunch or dinner. Try crafting a great letter that explains why you feel he or she is the right person for the job. If you have time, order business cards with the person’s new title, and hand them over when you offer him or her the job.

Whatever you do, don’t rush through the process. Let them savor the moment. Give them time to ask questions.

Show them that this is the best decision you’ve made in a long time.
