Know Your Team’s Desires

Know Your Team’s Desires

When I raise my powerful hand and bring out the Israelites, the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. Exodus 7:5

Since the day of their birth, every Israelite in Egypt had heard stories of “a land flowing with milk and honey.” Their souls must have ached with a desire to go home.

They despised Pharaoh’s oppression. After 430 years in Egypt, the promise that Pharaoh would fall under God’s hand resonated with them like a church bell.

Your team’s heartfelt desires are certainly less grandiose than crushing a tyrant, but they are no less important. The most effective use of your time as a leader will be the time you invest in getting to know your staff.

What is going on in their lives? Were their education plans put on hold? Do their children need special care that a more flexible schedule might provide? Has the accounting clerk always wanted to try his hand at graphic design?

God knew the desires of his people’s hearts. Do you?
