Imagine The Future

Now go and call together all the elders of Israel. Tell them . . . I will lead you to a land flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 3:16-17

I was handling communications on the fund-raising committee for a church building program. Success was going to require sacrificial giving by the congregation.

During a discussion about how to communicate our plans, one committee member became frustrated at what he referred to as my “trying to put some kind of advertising spin on this thing.”

“The people of God should give to his work because it’s the right thing to do,” he said.

I told him I wished it were that easy. The people may know what’s right, but they will always do what they feel, and the only way to get them to feel is to burn an image of the future into their hearts.

The leaders of Israel knew they should follow God, but God knew they wouldn’t do it unless they had a burning desire to live in a place “flowing with milk and honey.”
