Follow Your Convictions

Blessed are those who don’t feel guilty for doing something they have decided is right. But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. Romans 14:22-23

It’s tough being an effective leader these days, and even more difficult to be a Christian leader because of all the extra standards imposed by people who strongly resemble the Pharisees.

• Don’t do business on Sunday.
• Don’t serve wine at client-appreciation events.
• Open every meeting or conference call with prayer.
• Put Bible verses at the bottom of all your e-mails.
• Play only Christian music on your office radio.

There’s nothing wrong with any of these, and there’s nothing wrong with doing the opposite. Paul makes it clear that there is a wide range of acceptable options. What really matters is the personal account you will give to God for your decisions (see Romans 14:4).

As you lead, keep your eyes on the long-range prize and step over all the senseless stuff people throw at your feet.
