Follow Christ’s Example

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. Ephesians 5:1-2

Everyone who worked in our sales department was required to attend a weeklong intensive seminar called Sales Boot Camp. The school was run by a feisty little guy who inspired students to go home and sell, sell, sell.

As a young salesman, I was motivated to follow his lead until I asked some questions about the teacher’s experience and discovered that he was all smoke and no fire. The guy had never actually sold anything, and some places he had managed had gone bankrupt under his direction. I did not want to reproduce his history.

Imitating God is a different matter.

Paul confidently suggested that you follow Christ’s example because he knew that Jesus had been there and done that.

Jesus exhibited incredible leadership skills. He was decisive and compassionate, visionary and grounded, focused and flexible.

First, imitate God. Then leave a credible example for the people who follow you.
