Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.” Others said, “But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?” So there was a deep division of opinion among them. John 9:16
If people were confused about Jesus, what makes you think you can get them to understand you?
The Pharisees were smart guys. They knew Jewish law, and they were very particular about obeying its tiniest detail. For the Pharisees, there wasn’t a lot of gray area. You did what the law said, or else.
Despite their deep knowledge of Mosaic law, the Pharisees were divided as to whether or not Jesus had violated the Sabbath. I’m going to suggest they didn’t understand because they didn’t want to understand.
The lesson from this passage is that you will never get everyone to agree with you. Jesus focused his attention on the people who would engage with his message. He was looking for the handful of people who would give him 100 percent of their support.
Don’t waste your time trying to get 100 percent participation from 100 percent of the people. It’s not going to happen.
