Establish Rapport

Then Moses and Aaron returned to Egypt and called all the elders of Israel together. Aaron told them everything the LORD had told Moses, and Moses performed the miraculous signs. Exodus 4:29-30

To put this in perspective, Moses had been gone for a long time, and he hadn’t left Egypt on the best of terms (he had just killed an Egyptian). When he went back to solicit Hebrew support, he relied on someone from their community to make the initial introductions.

Aaron was a trusted member of the Jewish community who was obviously respected by the elders. He paved the way for Moses and asked the Egyptians to watch what his younger brother could do with a walking staff.

It’s all about relationships. You can force people to do something without having established a relationship, but if you want to lead them, you’ll need to build some rapport.

Since Moses and Aaron took time to establish a connection, “the people of Israel were convinced” (Exodus 4:31).

As a leader, you can’t ask for more than that.
