Ask For Advice

The gardener answered, “Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.” Luke 13:8-9

Most of us are really good at just a couple of things. That’s okay. God crafted each person to play certain roles, and he gave us unique sets of talents. I love knowing that I am not expected to know everything about everything.

The man in this parable planted a fig tree, and after three years it had still not produced any fruit. There’s no indication of the man’s occupation, but he must not have had a green thumb since he had a gardener.

“Cut it down,” said the man. But with an expert’s view of the situation, the gardener suggested different care and more fertilizer.

Asking the gardener’s opinion probably saved a valuable asset that might have been sacrificed had the man relied on his own limited knowledge.

Admitting you need advice is a sign of wisdom. Don’t hesitate to bring in experts.
