Don’t Withhold Justice

In a lawsuit, you must not deny justice to the poor. Exodus 23:6

It makes for exciting TV drama, but the little guy seldom wins in court against a giant. We’re drawn to such stories on TV, or in the movies, because we know they’re a fantasy.

And the lesson extends beyond the courtroom.

As a leader, it is your responsibility to weigh every issue on its own merits, not on the strength of the presenter.

Senior staff members shouldn’t be given preference over junior members of the team simply by virtue of having more tenure. Experience must have a voice, but experience is rooted in old ideas, and sometimes the best ideas come from people who are unaware of what was done before.

The Scriptures couldn’t be more clear about this: Do what is fair, not what you can force on someone by virtue of your size, resources, experience, or your ability to hold your breath longer than anyone else.

Treat everyone fairly, regardless of their status or seniority.
