What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? 1 Samuel 15:22

As I write this, the Winter Olympics are being held in Italy. Watching the figure skaters, I am moved by the incredible skill required to perform at this level. These men and women (boys and girls, in some cases) have dedicated themselves to a standard most of us would choose to avoid.

Even among the upper echelons there are some whose lights shine brighter than the rest. They have something special inside.

The truly great skaters transcend technical expertise and pour their hearts into their performances. They aren’t just going through the motions; they’re obeying an inner drive that compels them to incredible levels of excellence—and you can see the difference.

Saul followed God’s instructions technically, but his heart wasn’t in sync.
