Cultivate A Pleasing Aroma
Cultivate a Pleasing Aroma
This is a burnt offering to the LORD; it is a pleasing aroma. Exodus 29:18
Brain scientists know that smells are processed by a section of the brain that is directly linked to our emotions. The other four senses are processed through our conscious minds, but aromas go straight to our feelings.
You can program your brain’s reaction to sights, sounds, touch, and taste, but smells cause immediate, involuntary chemical reactions, such as the joy a mom feels when she picks up her baby’s blankie and draws in a deep breath.
How does your organization smell?
What “aroma” do you present to people on the outside?
What immediate and uncontrollable reaction do people experience when they come into contact with your staff?
What about your personal scent? This has nothing to do with perfume or aftershave. It’s all about how others feel when they’re around you.
Do they fill their lungs with a deep, satisfying breath? Do they hold their noses and make for the nearest exit?
People seldom remember what you tell them, but they always recall how you made them feel.
