Nothing is more disastrous than someone in a leadership position who thinks he knows market realities and refuses to conduct adequate research.

This is called “the arrogance of success.”

It results from someone relying on past experience to make decisions that will affect the future. What worked in the past will not necessarily work in the future because the future will be different.

Urgency is no excuse for moving ahead without solid data to back you up. Noah had been on the ark for a very long time, but he took the time to update his knowledge about the surrounding environment. Any decision he made would affect the future of the entire human race, so he wanted to get it right.

I can’t sufficiently stress the importance of good research. Having data to back up your decisions will give you an added level of confidence and reduce the need to go back and fix things once they’re out of the barn—or the ark.
