Choose Your Own Team

At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be in charge of all the affairs of the province of Babylon. Daniel 2:49

The company’s new president had been highly recruited by the chairman of the board, who proudly told a stockholder gathering, “Caroline Menicco [not her real name] is going to stand this company up and get it running again.”

Unfortunately, the board told Caroline to keep a couple of people on the executive team whom she saw as part of the problem. The old guard fought her every initiative, and the turnaround failed. The company was dissolved, and Caroline’s promising career was permanently tarnished.

Daniel asked the king to appoint his countrymen in key positions, and Nebuchadnezzar wisely realized that leaders need people around them in whom they can confide.

New leaders can take your organization in exciting new directions. When you bring in new talent, give them freedom to survey the landscape and make changes where they are needed.

Current staff shouldn’t be eliminated without cause; neither should they be passed along as part of the furniture.
