Keep Your Promises

Joshua said to the two spies, “Keep your promise. Go to the prostitute’s house and bring her out, along with all her family.” Joshua 6:22

Rahab was a prostitute in Jericho. For unknown reasons, she protected the two spies Joshua sent to gather intelligence about the city’s defenses. When the Israelites blew their horns and “the walls came a-tumblin’ down,” Joshua honored the commitment his men had made to protect her.

It is easy to forget the little guy in the heat of battle.

Promises made to a small supplier often fall prey to rapid growth or competitive pressures. Special arrangements with a customer come under intense scrutiny when you outgrow the need to protect every relationship.

It would have been easy for Joshua to break the promise to Rahab, but he didn’t, and God included this story in his book.

The leadership lesson is very clear. Honor your commitments, regardless of the cost or the rationale for doing otherwise.

God does what he says he’ll do. You should too.
