Be Generous

There was an abundance of royal wine, reflecting the king’s generosity. By edict of the king, no limits were placed on the drinking. Esther 1:7-8

Ebenezer Scrooge has been a popular character for a couple of centuries because generosity—or its absence—is such a powerful force.

Was the world’s favorite “lousy boss” really such a bad guy? Despite his villainous portrayal, wasn’t Scrooge simply being careful with his money—frugal, cautious, prudent, and thrifty?

Or does the world despise him because he replaced stewardship with stinginess?

Just like Scrooge, Xerxes had every right to keep what was his. But he chose to share it without limit. The guest list for his celebration included everyone in the kingdom. There is no evidence that people were required to meet certain performance standards to benefit from his largesse.

Are you more like Scrooge or Xerxes? Do you lay aside what’s rightfully yours to help others achieve their goals?
