Be Above Reproach

Be Above Reproach

That Hebrew slave you’ve brought into our house tried to come in and fool around with me. Genesis 39:17

Potiphar could have paid more direct attention to his wife, but I’ll leave that to the people who write marriage books.

Reality check: If you are in a position of authority, someone is going to tell lies about you.

You can’t control the liars, so don’t waste energy trying. You can, however, take steps to minimize the damage they cause.

Notice how Joseph was treated even when he was accused of a serious crime. He was sent to a prison where the king’s prisoners were housed—a minimum-security, white-collar lockup.

Potiphar could have had Joseph killed, but he obviously had his doubts about the veracity of the claims against Joseph, probably because of Joseph’s blameless record before the alleged incident.

As a leader, be above reproach in all that you do. Then, when the liars toss accusations your way, they won’t have anything to stick to.
