Don’t Worry About A Thing

So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing. Genesis 39:6

Take your pencil and circle the words didn’t worry in the verse above. Potiphar obviously knew something about being an effective leader. After appointing Joseph as general manager of his household affairs, he no longer worried about them.

Potiphar wasn’t looking over Joseph’s shoulder or second-guessing his decisions.

As a leader, you need to let your people do what you hired them to do. One of the best ways to stay out of their hair is to concentrate on your own assignment, which is to look beyond the immediate landscape and plan for what you’ll do in the future.

The Egyptian leader was fortunate to have a manager of Joseph’s considerable ability, and he honored Joseph by not meddling in his affairs. If you share the same good fortune as Potiphar, be diligent in honoring your good managers by leaving them alone.

Make it your goal to have someone say that you didn’t worry about a thing.
