Be a Lifelong Learner
The LORD told Joshua, “Today I will begin to make you a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites.” Joshua 3:7
Moses had died, and God was preparing to take the Israelites over the Jordan River into the Promised Land.
Joshua had been Moses’ assistant since childhood. The people knew his name, and stories about his abilities had spread throughout the tribes. He was the man of the hour.
As Israel stood at the edge of the river waiting for instructions, God said that he would now begin to make Joshua a great leader in the eyes of the people.
There is more than one lesson in this:
- God sometimes puts us in positions before we’re completely ready, so we have to trust him.
- Celebrity only makes you famous; it doesn’t necessarily make you a leader.
- Your ability to lead depends on the team’s perception of you, not on your résumé.
Joshua was at the beginning of a leadership development course that never ended. At what stage of the learning process are you?
