Hearing His Voice #292
Hearing His Voice #292
The Word became human and made his home among us.
John 1:14
Paul wrote a lot about the power of the Cross, explaining that his message had little to do with human wisdom, but rather was based in the Spirit’s power from above. And we see that power clearly in the Incarnation, the Word made flesh, the ministry of Jesus as He made His home among us. His works far surpassed the human efforts of those around Him, demonstrating His authority over storms, diseases, demons, and every other power on earth. The Word-in-the-flesh was and is a greater power. He is an expression of the God who is above all.
What does that mean when God speaks to us? If the Word among us is power, then His words to us today will also carry power. He has not changed. He has never spoken impotent messages, and He never will. His words strike at the heart, change lives, turn situations toward His purposes, confound our best logic, and accomplish His purposes. When we are in desperate straits, all we need is one word from God to deliver us. When we are held captive by some condition or attitude or situation, all we need is one word from God to set us free. He is the God who thunders from heaven, even when His thunder is just a whisper. The earth shakes at the sound of His voice.
That’s what we really crave when we listen for God. We need His love and His wisdom, but we need them expressed in power. Weak words will not help us; only the strength of His authority can change our lives and our world. When we invite Him to speak to us, we are inviting earthshaking words. And our ears should listen for nothing less.
Jesus, You are the power of God in the flesh. Speak that power into my life. I don’t want weak words; I want change. Rattle my world with the thunder of Your voice.
