Hearing His Voice #291
Hearing His Voice #291
The Word became human and made his home among us.
John 1:14
Scout bees looking for a new location for a nest are able to return to the hive and give a detailed map to the rest of the swarm by dancing out the directions. In Southeast Asia, thousands of fireflies light up simultaneously without any apparent prompting from a leader. Spiders weave intricate webs that continue to impress today’s most advanced engineers. Birds migrate across thousands of miles to precise locations—and back again—year after year without losing their way.
How? What inaudible voice is guiding these creatures to do marvelous, inexplicable feats? The Word that spoke creation into being wove astonishing detail into its fabric. These marvels are written into creation as its unifying wisdom, speaking without continuing to speak, like a rhythmic echo resounding throughout eons of history. The Word in the flesh is the embodiment of divine wisdom—both in creation and in the direction of its inhabitants. The Word that lived among us is the Word that formed us from the beginning.
What voice is guiding us like that today? Are the bees and birds and other creatures rare exceptions? No, the wisdom of God is embedded in our design too. We are governed by the sound of God’s voice, guided by an inaudible expression of His will. The intricacies of our makeup work together to form a stunningly complex whole, full of purpose and planning. We are, in essence, an articulation of His voice.
Know that even when you don’t hear God’s voice, you are being held together by its power and led by His intentions. His wisdom is in every cell of your body and every impulse of your brain. The incarnation of Jesus was the perfect expression of this wisdom, but God continues to express it in you—even when you aren’t aware of it.
Jesus, You are the wisdom of God. I don’t need information from You nearly as much as I simply need You. Fill me with Yourself, and I will have all the wisdom I need.
