Wisdom’s Partners

Wisdom’s Partners

Read Proverbs 8

I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment.

Proverbs 8:12

Wisdom, good judgment, knowledge, and discernment all apparently live in the same neighborhood. For the purposes of meditation and practice, these terms may be used interchangeably. Within this proverb, though, wisdom clearly takes the chief position. The other three terms seem to indicate aspects or components of wisdom. Good judgment has to do with decision making. Knowledge has to do with gathering and organizing facts. Discernment describes a capacity for understanding people or events in subtle ways.

Those who seek wisdom from God will find along the way that they are also discovering and growing in good judgment, knowledge, and discernment. Your commitment not only to read Proverbs daily but also to concentrate on a single proverb for meditation means that you are spending time every day in wisdom’s neighborhood. Good things will come out of that time investment.
