Transparent Before God

Transparent Before God

Read Proverbs 24

Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.

Proverbs 24:12

Trying to play hide-and-seek with God is what we might call a “no win” situation—for us. The context of this verse is where someone is unjustly sentenced to death and a person who could have helped remained quiet (24:11), claiming he knew nothing.

The point is that God knows everything about us. He knows our hearts, he sees us wherever we go, he keeps watch over our souls. We may be able to hide from people, fool them, and even make them think one way about us when the opposite is true. But we can never hide from God. He sees all, knows all, understands all, and—eventually—judges all.

We should seek to live honestly, truthfully, and respectably. While we don’t have to wear our hearts on our sleeves for everyone to see, we should at least be transparent enough for people to know that we are sincere in how we speak and what we do.

A WORD FOR TODAY

God knows everything.

Lord, may I always remember your presence with me. May I always remember that no matter what I say or do, you know the truth. Teach me to live a life of sincerity and truthfulness.
