Read Proverbs 19

Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.

Proverbs 19:20

The Bible teaches that we are wise to honor our elders. This verse tells us that those who are wise have probably reached that level after years of hard work and experience. Some of the greatest storehouses of godly wisdom are found in the elder members of our families and churches. Are you an older saint? Share your hard-earned wisdom with those who follow you. Are you younger? Pursue those who have so much to share.

So how do we become wise? By seeking advice and instruction, acknowledging that we don’t know it all and that we have much to learn. One of the great motives for gratitude in our lives comes when we realize how many people have given us gifts of wisdom along the way. We can benefit greatly from the counsel of others, for they can help us to avoid their mistakes along the way.

Today, Lord, keep me humble and teachable. Grant me wisdom to walk in your truth.
