Heart Wounds

Heart Wounds

Read Proverbs 4

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Proverbs 4:23

Ever wonder why a single, well-placed paper cut can create such relentless agony? Even the smallest task like folding letters or jotting a note becomes an impossible feat—comparable to water torture. How can such a small thing command such focus from the entire body?

The Bible refers to the human heart as facing a similar experience. The condition of our heart affects each undertaking, without exception. Sure, our lips may let a lie slip past them, but our heart feels the pain. Our fingers may deal a dirty hand to a neighbor or business partner, but our heart is soiled. Guarding our hearts from leading the rest of our members to sin is a full-time job.

Thankfully, God is willing to take control. He alone can safely monitor an irregular heartbeat—one that can be arrested by sin at any moment. Through Christ’s death on the cross, we can surrender our heart to his keeping.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Check your heart security.

Today, Lord, I surrender the leanings of my heart to your keeping.
