A Firm Foundation

A Firm Foundation

Read Proverbs 12

The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm.

Proverbs 12:7

This proverb compares the lives of two types of people: those who have no foundation, and those who choose God as their foundation. What kind of foundation have you chosen for your life? How clearly have you communicated it to your family? If we choose to live our lives without God or neglect to pass down our faith to our children, we deprive them of a firm foundation. After we are gone, they will have nothing upon which to stand.

On the other hand, by developing godliness in our own lives, we benefit not only ourselves but also the generations that come after us. Today’s proverb demonstrates this truth by describing the godly through their children. When we pass on a heritage of faith, we create a firm foundation for our kids’ lives. Then, when we are no longer with them, they will have the grounding to continue to grow and rely on God.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Godliness is both taught and caught.

Lord, help me to grow in godliness so I may pass your truth on to my children.
