Welcoming The King Of Glory
Welcoming the King of Glory
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths. . . .
Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
Who is the King of glory?
The LORD of Heaven’s Armies—
he is the King of glory.
Psalm 24:1-2, 9-10
When the president of a nation travels, it is a major event. He’s accompanied by his entourage of advisers and secret service agents. When a president’s entourage reaches a gated home, the president never gets out of his limousine to identify himself or open the gate. No, the guards simply know that this is the president. In David’s day, a city’s gates would be barred up while the king was away at battle. But when the king came back in victory, the gate would be flung open to welcome the returning, triumphant king. David’s prayer is that the conquering King of kings would be welcomed to Jerusalem in a similar way.
Just as David welcomed the Lord, his King, so long ago, welcome God in prayer and celebrate his presence in your life.
- O Lord, I welcome you into my life as King . . .
