Salvation Comes From The Lord Alone
Salvation Comes from the Lord Alone
As my life was slipping away,
I remembered the LORD.
And my earnest prayer went out to you
in your holy Temple.
Those who worship false gods
turn their backs on all God’s mercies.
But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise,
and I will fulfill all my vows.
For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.
Jonah 2:7-9
This amazing prayer was prayed by the prophet Jonah from the belly of the great fish that had swallowed him! Deep down, Jonah must have known that it was fruitless to try to escape God’s call. On a ship headed away from where God had told him to go and preach, Jonah got caught in a life-threatening storm. He knew that he was the reason for the impending disaster and eventually asked to be thrown overboard to spare the others. Instead of requiring his life, God ordered a huge fish to swallow him. Jonah wasted no time. From within its belly he prayed to God, recognizing that salvation could come from no one else.
Remember God as Jonah did in his moment of distress. Reaffirm your dependence on God for salvation.
- Dear Lord, I remember you, for salvation comes from you alone . . .
