Trusting In God

Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress.

Tears blur my eyes.

My body and soul are withering away.

I am dying from grief;

my years are shortened by sadness.

Sin has drained my strength;

I am wasting away from within. . . .

But I am trusting you, O LORD,

saying, “You are my God!”

My future is in your hands.

Psalm 31:9-10, 14-15

Suffering and pain are inevitable in this life. Strained relationships, financial obligations, and situations at work can sap our strength, leaving us with little to give to others. In this prayer, David told God about the misery and suffering he was facing. His grief and sadness had weakened him, leading him to say, “I am wasting away from within.” Yet even in his struggles, David found strength in the Lord by placing his future in God’s hands. We, too, can trust the Lord’s plans for our future.

What are the situations in your life that cause you anguish and misery? As you spend time in prayer, commit those situations to him. Place your future in God’s able hands.
