Resting In God’s Care

Resting in God’s Care

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.

Bend down and listen as I pray.

Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.

By your mighty power you rescue

those who seek refuge from their enemies.

Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.

Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 17:6-8

Our eyes are extremely sensitive. People react swiftly and instinctively to anything that is heading right towards their eyes. In this prayer, David asked the Lord to guard him as he would guard his own eyes. He asked to be guarded in such a way because he believed God would answer him. He envisioned God, gentle and interested, bending down to listen to his prayer. He believed that God would use his mighty power to protect him. With his eyes fixed expectantly on his loving Lord, David received the shelter he desperately sought.

Use David’s prayer to remind yourself that God is willing and able to keep you in his care. He is the only one who can truly guard and protect you. Commit your worries to him in prayer.

  • Dear Lord, guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings . . .
