Praying For Strength From The Lord
Praying for Strength from the Lord
Samson prayed to the LORD, “Sovereign LORD, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime.
Judges 16:28-30
Before Samson’s birth, an angel of the Lord told his mother she would have a son. His hair was never to be cut. He was to be dedicated to God, and he was destined to rescue Israel from the Philistines. Samson was dedicated to God at birth, and he grew into a man of great strength. He served the Lord for years but later strayed away from God. Now, languishing in a Philistine prison, blind, weak, and far from God, he remembered the source of his strength. He prayed and asked God to strengthen him once again. The Lord answered his prayer, and Samson was able to win a great victory over the Philistines.
If you seem to be languishing in your walk with God, remember the source of your strength. Pray that God may strengthen you to win the battles he has prepared for you.
- Dear God, strengthen me and help me to rely upon you rather than myself . . .
